Awesome Trader: How an “AI Bot” Scam Was Unwound to a 71% Return

Recovery File · LCR-2026-003

Awesome Trader marketed a “self-learning AI bot” that supposedly traded crypto around the clock. A Toronto consultant funded it heavily after a convincing demo. Because she contacted us within days of the freeze, we recovered most of it.

How it started

S.K., 39, was added to a WhatsApp “investor group” where members posted screenshots of the bot’s gains. After a small deposit appeared to grow 20% in a week, she sent a larger amount to “let the AI compound.”

Where it went wrong

When she tried to withdraw, the platform required her to “verify” by depositing an additional 10% as a “profit-release bond.” The group admins who had seemed like fellow investors were part of the operation, manufacturing social proof.

“The whole group was cheering me on to deposit more — they were all in on it.”

The recovery, step by step

  1. We acted within the golden windowShe reached us only days after the block, so the funds had not yet been fully laundered onward.
  2. We traced the USDT pathHer stablecoin deposits hopped through two wallets to a mid-tier exchange deposit address still holding a balance.
  3. We documented the social-engineering layerWe captured the fake group, the “profit-release bond” demand, and the deposit trail into one evidence pack.
  4. We pushed a fast freezeThe receiving exchange acted quickly on a clear, recent fraud trail and held the destination account.
  5. We secured the releaseAfter compliance review, $37,500 was released back, supplemented by a card-network claim on the bond payment.
71%Outcome: $37,500 of $52,800 recovered — a strong result driven almost entirely by how quickly the case was reported before the funds dispersed.

Warning signs we flagged

  • Any “AI bot” promising consistent, compounding returns with no risk.
  • Investor “groups” full of strangers posting profit screenshots.
  • A “bond” or deposit required before you can withdraw profits.
  • Demos that pay out small amounts to justify a much larger deposit.
