But behind the scenes, it granted unlimited token approval to a scammer-controlled wallet.
Seconds after connecting, $18,000 in ETH and tokens were drained.
The Immediate Response
Thankfully, the client contacted us the same day. We immediately analyzed the transaction and traced the outgoing funds. The ETH was routed through several wallets, but hadn’t yet been fully laundered.
One of the wallets interacted with a centralized exchange just hours after the theft.
Recovery Tactics

- Collected all relevant transaction hashes
- Documented the phishing site (screenshots + domain records)
- Verified the scammer’s wallet trail
- Submitted a formal fraud report to the exchange with our findings
The key was speed. Exchanges often can’t intervene once funds are withdrawn or mixed. But we caught this one early.
The Result
Just four days after the theft, the exchange froze the destination wallet.
After processing our documentation and client verification, they returned the frozen balance:
$14,200 was recovered.
